Occupational Medicine

Occupational Medicine Services

Occupational medicine is a specialized branch of medicine that focuses on the health and well-being of workers in various industries. The primary goal of occupational medicine is to prevent and manage work-related injuries and illnesses and to promote the overall health and safety of employees.

When offering occupational medicine services, the following aspects are typically covered:

a. Pre-employment screenings: Evaluating job applicants to ensure they are physically fit for the job and don't have any pre-existing conditions that may put them at risk.

b. Work-related injury management: Providing medical care and treatment for injuries sustained on the job.

c. Occupational health surveillance: Monitoring the health of employees who may be exposed to specific occupational hazards, such as toxic substances or noise.

d. Occupational health and safety training: Educating workers and employers about potential workplace hazards and how to prevent injuries and illnesses.

e. Return-to-work evaluations: Assessing an employee's ability to return to work after an injury or illness and determining any necessary workplace accommodations.

f. Health promotion and wellness programs: Implementing initiatives to improve overall employee health and well-being.

g. Regulatory compliance: Ensuring that the workplace adheres to local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.

h. Ergonomic assessments: Evaluating and optimizing the workplace to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and other ergonomic-related issues.

What Are The Most Common Work-Related Injuries Treated With Occupational Medicine?

According to the CDC, the most common personal injuries caused by jobs include falling, auto accidents, machinery accidents, and workplace violence. We also see patients who are suffering from repetitive job task injuries, such as carpal tunnel, as well as lung and skin conditions caused by hazardous materials. The injuries resulting from these types of incidents include back pain, neck pain, joint pain, and spine issues. For example, you may have sciatic nerve pain or a herniated disc due to falling from a ladder. This is a type of work-related injury that we see most often here at the Pacific Medical Group. Our goal is to help you relieve the pain from your work-related injuries, while also helping you recover using physical therapy and chiropractic care.
